My Nyx Collection

While the 2010s took a number of beloved products and trends away from me, the 2010s gave me Nyx cosmetics. My first Nyx product was "The Crimson Amulet" collection (2012), inspired by the 2012 Dark Shadows. Since I was a huge fan of the original Dark Shadows series in the 1960s-70s, I was very interested in the gothic-styled packaging for this color collection. Even though I never watched the 2012 movie, I particularly loved the images of Josette, Julia, and Angelique included in the palette with tips for achieving their particular looks. This was the first makeup kit I really loved after my Urban Decay "Sell Out" face case. Even though I have used this color collection countless times, I have only hit pan on the white highlighter, which I used to use constantly.

The palette is themed around bright colors and a variety of eye colors, including greens, a favorite of mine. All of the lip colors and blushes included are very bright compared to popular color collections today.

Front and back of the color collection.

During the early 2010s, when I used this palette most heavily, I favored the bolder eyeshadow colors in the top half. I used the shimmering dark blue, dark green, and deep purple as eyeliner. Looking back at this palette, I would really like to explore the neutrals in the bottom half more. The palette has aged well in that those neutral mattes, which were up-and-coming at the time, are still popular.

Like I mentioned earlier, I loved the white highlighter. I also enjoyed the deep red and bright pink lipsticks. The blushes were actually a little too strong for my face. The shimmering "bronzer" showed up as very pink on me, and I could get by with a little of it. I need to buy a narrow blush brush to work more with the four shades in the top, as well as the blush in my Urban Decay face case.

Jumbo Eye Pencils in "Yogurt" (2006) and "Strawberry Milk" (2009). I bought "Strawberry Milk" around the mid-2010s and "Yogurt" a couple of years later. More recently, I bought Nyx's pencil sharpener to sharpen them.
